Introduction

You are entitled to an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card for the duration of your temporary protection permission in Ireland. Currently temporary protection has been extended to 4th March, 2025. Here you will read important information about how to renew your immigration permission online.

Please note that your Temporary Protection Certificate (yellow paper) is your permission to be in Ireland and is equivalent to a stamp 4. This gives you access to Government supports including full access to the labour market.

Employers should note:
If your employee is a Beneficiary of Temporary Protection (BoTP), their IRP card has expired and they are waiting to renew it they are legally permitted to remain in the State and access the labour market on the basis of their Temporary Protection Certificate. Please note that all temporary protection certificates are valid up to 4 March 2025, regardless of the date on the certificate.

Renewing your immigration registration

As a BoTP you can renew your IRP card online. There is no fee to renew your card.

Required documents

You will need:

  • A copy of your temporary protection certificate

  • A copy of the biometric page of your current passport.

  • A copy of your Irish Residence Permit card (front and back sides)

  • Proof of your current address in Ireland, which must be dated within the last three months. This can be government documentation, bank statements, utility bills, a letter from a hotel or landlord, or any other relevant proof of address.

If you and a family member both need to renew, you must submit separate applications. You must be in Ireland to apply.

Please complete the following steps to renew your registration online:

  • Log into your account

  • Find the Registration Renewal form

  • Begin your application

  • To ensure you do not have to pay, on section 1.19 please select the option, I am a Refugee or I have Subsidiary Protection

  • Upload your documents

  • Submit your application.

After you submit your renewal application

  • We will email you an application number and payment receipt. Make sure to keep these details in case you need to contact us

  • If your application is successful, we will email you to let you know and send you a new IRP card within 10 -15 working days

  • If we need more information, we will let you know

  • If your application is unsuccessful, we will email you to tell you why and return the money you paid.
