As part of our commitment to increased digitalisation, the Citizenship Division has introduced eVetting as part of the application process.
This eVetting process will be a requirement for all adult applicants (ROI residents) who will be requested at a later stage in the decision making process, to undertake the GardaĆ e-vetting process or other Police vetting processes as deemed necessary. Non ROI residents are required to continue to provide home country and/or third county police reports as before.
S.15 of the Irish Naturalisation and Citizenship Act 1956 as amended requires that all applicants for a certificate of naturalisation must meet the conditions for naturalisation as set out. One of the conditions is that the applicant is of good character and the onus is on the applicant to provide a comprehensive record as part of their application submission.
A critical aspect of the character assessment is a vetting disclosure from the National Vetting Bureau. From 30th March 2021 all new applicants are required at the appropriate time to provide authorisation to Citizenship Division to issue an eVetting invitation to them. Applicants who submitted an application prior to 30th March 2021 may be requested to complete an authorisation and will be contacted in writing by Citizenship Division.
