Without Condition - Dual Citizenship - Immigration Service Delivery

Currently Domestic Residence and Permissions Division is experiencing very high volumes of applications for Without Conditions (Stamp 6). As a consequence there is currently a delay in processing post/applications. When applications are received and uploaded on our systems applicants will receive an acknowledgement. We are doing all we can to acknowledge applications as soon as possible.

Introduction

If you hold dual citizenship – Irish citizenship and another – you can apply for permission to remain in Ireland Without Condition (Stamp 6). To qualify you must hold or have the right to hold an Irish passport.

If you wish to apply for dual citizenship, you should check with the authorities of the other country, where you are a citizen, to ensure that your rights are protected. For example, the law in some countries provides for the automatic termination of its citizenship or nationality if you acquire another citizenship or nationality.

Eligibility and required documents

You are eligible to apply:

1. Through your parents

If one of your parents were born in Ireland, you must provide the following original documents:

Mother’s or father’s long-form civil birth certificate
If you are claiming through your mother, her civil marriage certificate is required because she may have changed her maiden name
Your long-form civil birth certificate
Your current passport.

2. Through your grandparents

If one of your grandparents were born in Ireland, you must provide the following original documents:

Your Foreign Births Registration certificate which is issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs
Your current passport.

3. Naturalisation/Post Nuptial Citizenship (PNC)

If you have been naturalised as an Irish Citizen, you must provide the following original documents:

Your original certificate of naturalisation/Post Nuptial Citizenship (PNC) Certificate, or your current Irish passport
Your current passport.

4. Renew Stamp 6 Permission

To renew this permission you must provide the following original documents:

Your expired non-Irish passport that contained the Stamp 6 permission
Your current non-Irish passport
Your current Irish passport if you have been issued with one.

If you have previously held a Stamp 6 permission in your non-Irish passport but have since given up your Irish Citizenship, you no longer will have the right to receive a Stamp 6 permission.

Submit an application

There is no application form required for a Stamp 6 permission. Stamp 6 appointments held at the Burgh Quay Registration Office are currently suspended.

Please ensure to provide your current forwarding address for the return of your documents. There is no fee for obtaining a Stamp 6 permission.
