Introduction

After a certain period of time living in Ireland, you may be given the option to renew your registration.

Your Immigration Residence Permit (IRP) card shows the expiry date of your permission stamp. This tells you when it needs to be renewed.

If you want to stay in Ireland beyond that time, and are eligible, you must request a new permission and renew your registration.

You can apply to renew your registration, including a change in your permission stamp category, up to 12 weeks before its expiry date. This will allow enough time to process your application.

Processing times

Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) are currently processing applications for renewal submitted from week starting 06/12/2024.

If you have submitted an application after this date, it is currently queued and will be processed in due course. Once processed, it may take a further two working weeks to receive the new IRP card.

Here’s what to do next

Please watch one of these information videos to explain how you renew your registration. The videos are available in the following languages:

1. Set up an online account or log into an existing account
2. Have your documents ready

  • Check to see what documents you will need to renew your permission.

  • Have a digital copy of your documents ready. This can be a digital scan or photograph of the document. However, the immigration officer must be able to read it clearly.

  • If you have to pay a fee, have your credit or debit card details ready. It costs €300 to renew some permissions, while others do not require a fee.

You will need:

  • A copy of your most recent Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card.

  • A copy of the biometric page of your current passport.

If you and a family member both need to renew, you must apply separately. This means you cannot apply together.

You must be in Ireland to apply.

3. Renew your registration

Please complete the following steps to renew your registration online:

  • Select the Registration Renewal form.

  • Begin your application.

  • Upload your documents.

  • Pay the fee (if applicable).

  • Submit your application.

4. After your apply to renew your registration

After you submit your application:

  • We will email you a unique application number (OREG number) and a payment receipt. Keep these in case you need to contact us later.

  • If your application is successful, we will email you to let you know.

  • We will send you a new IRP card within 10 -15 working days

  • If we need more information, we will let you know.

  • If your application is unsuccessful, we will email you to tell you why. We will return the fee if you have paid it.
